OUR VETERANS
In support of the Preamble[i] to The American Legion constitution, our veterans are still serving America. At our own post, our veterans volunteer dozens of hours every week outside our walls. We take veterans to VA and/or doctor appointments. We help with daily errands and household tasks. We assist in feeding not only our veterans but others in need. Those that are able, make themselves available to deliver Military Honors at our fallen comrades’ funerals – as many as a dozen a month. Many of our veterans also volunteer at their places of worship and with other veteran organizations.
Post 459 veterans (Legionnaires) donate time and money to many worthy causes including Fisher House, Boy Scouts, Wounded and Returning Warriors and Shriners (to name just a few) as well as recognizing local Police and Fire Fighters.
We manage 4 apartments on our property targeting veteran affordable housing. More than 3 dozen hours a week goes toward this and other administrative tasks for our organization (Including Sons of the American Legion, The Legion Riders and Adventure Crew 2710) and every one of these veterans are volunteers.
We may be small, but we have a large heart.
[i] For God and Country, we associate ourselves together for the following purposes: To uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States of America; to maintain law and order; to foster and perpetuate a 100-percent Americanism; to preserve the memories and incidents of our associations in all wars; to inculcate a sense of individual obligation to the community, state and nation; to combat the autocracy of both the classes and the masses; to make right the master of might; to promote peace and good will on earth; to safeguard and transmit to posterity the principles of justice, freedom and democracy; to consecrate and sanctify our comradeship by our devotion to mutual helpfulness.
